33.

Today is my birthday.  I am 33.

Wow.

Anyone sending along some aquamarine?  I won't turn it down!

I started thinking about how a lot of people (especially bloggers) have a bucket list of things they want to do before a certain age.  I always marvel at those lists because there are usually some fun and interesting things on them, but I've never made one because I have never had that many things I've wanted to do by a certain age.  And really, I don't like to make lists like that because then there's all this pressure to get those things done.  I don't think I could handle that.

So instead, I give you my list of 5 things I never plan on doing in my lifetime:

1. Jump out of an airplane.  I don't care how many people rave about it, it's not going to happen.  I can get motion sick if I turn my head too fast to the side.  Plus there's the whole falling from really high thing going on.  You've got to place a lot of trust in that backpack.

2. Get a tattoo.  I am not a fan of tattoos on women.  I just don't like them.  I can handle them on men- and really, they look better with a whole bunch of them than just one (does that make any sense?).  I just can't think of anything that I would want permanently on my body and I would not know where to put it.  Plus, ouch.

3. Eat weird foods.  Maybe eating sheep's stomach or insects is considered a delicacy in some places but I have no interest in being brave with my meals.

4. Camping.  I have no interest.  I want a hotel with a heated pool.

5. Run a marathon.  Yes, it is quite an accomplishment.  I'm totally going to pass on this one.

Anyone else have an anti-bucket list item to add?

  1. Happy birthday! I am totally with you about jumping out of a plane and camping. I actually had to go camping when I was a girl scout and it was pretty much the worst thing ever. Likewise, running a marathon sounds terrible, and even though I have a couple of friends who run, I never join them. Gross.

(I have a tattoo, though! It's on my right arm and I love it. I want more, but I never seem to have time to plan them.)

  2. Awesome list!! Good call on the Tattoo... I dont think they look bad on women (depending) but the best reason not to get one, is not knowing what you would want. Happy Birthday, and enjoy not doing the things you dont want to.

  3. I agree with everything on you Never To Do list. Heights...no thanks. Tattoo...I love accessories but nothing permanent. Weird food...I just threw up reading your descriptions of the foods you'd never eat. Camping...remember the movie Troop Beverly Hills? Yeah that's my kind of "camping". Running...never more than a 5k...but ideally never at all!

Happy happy happy birthday my friend! I hope this year has wonderful things in store.

  4. I love it! Even further, what are you doing to celebrate NOT doing these particular things??? Are you sitting on the couch instead of jumping out of a plane? Eating cake instead of pig stomach??? ETC. TOo funny!

  5. Happy Birthday!
Love your anti-bucket list :) My young self would have loved to gone sky diving, but the older I get, the less appealing it sounds. Someone would have to push me for sure!
I will only ever get a tattoo if it is something I decide I want for the rest of my life, but I haven't found that one thing yet...so no tats here.

The only thing on my bucket list is to visit all 50 states :)

I hope you have a wonderful birthday!

  7. Happy Happy Joy Joy. (Ren and Stimpy fan) Anyway Happy BIRTHDAY!!

I have a tattoo! I have a crescent moon right on my left wrist. I got it in Atlantic City 2hrs before my 21st birthday.. such a rebel. haha.. I kind of would like more but my boyfriend hates them and I promised that I wouldn't get another one as long as we are dating. However, I am completely opposite about men with tattoos. I really don't care for men with tattoos and I don't find them attractive. Really tribal tattoos?? What tribe are you from??

  8. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! This list made me laugh. I also have no interest in eating weird foods (I'm sure foodies everywhere are gasping and shaking their heads as I type this) and ditto on the marathon too. Peter used to run them a lot actually (I think he's run like 8 marathons) but eventually got to busy when he went back to school to keep it up. It just doesn't appeal to me at all, and I don't feel like I have anything to prove physically. Also I'm with you on camping. I was forced to go camping growing up with an outdoorsy dad. It was always awful. I'm decidedly indoorsy. I do love nature, though, I just don't want to live outside, like sleeping in the hot/cold and getting bitten by things and going to the bathroom outside. I'm starting to get hives just thinking about it. :/

  10. Hope you had a great birthday, Kristin. I won't be eating any weird food either, if I can help it. I have, however, done all of the other things (except, in the marathon, I cratered at mile 20.3). I love your blog

    1. Thank you, Sherry! Kudos to you on the almost-marathon. I would be completely happy to make it one mile, let alone 20. (That's not going to happen either, though!) :)
