The Nutmeg Collective.

Hi everyone!  I know there's been an absence here, but I've been working on a huge project lately and I'm happy to finally share with you!  At the end of last year, I took over as captain of a local Connecticut team on Etsy.  Etsy teams are community groups with a common theme, and this one happened to be a group of CT-based sellers.  The team had gone dormant, and I was really looking for help getting out in the community, so I took the captain's leaving as a sign that this was what I needed to do.

The team was called Hartbeat, which is a common Connecticut term, often referring to the capital city.  We stuck with the name for awhile, but upon realizing that there were many different groups referencing Hartbeat, we decided to change the name, and on July 1 we became The Nutmeg Collective.  Connecticut is the The Nutmeg State, so it seemed fitting.

Since we started, we've developed a core group of about 70 sellers who are looking to make their crafty businesses their job and are looking for more show opportunities, local selling venues, business advice, Etsy advice, and more.  Members are required to be active and involved, and it's amazing the friendships that have already formed.

We've developed a team blog (where I've been spending some time and totally abandoning this one!) that introduces our members, gives business advice, tutorials, and other Connecticut information, and have our first team-developed trunk show happening this coming weekend.  If you're local, we'd love to have you stop by.  Our Facebook page updates where our members are going to be selling and highlights their successes.  Out Twitter helps us connect with local organizations.  I'm really excited about this adventure and am looking forward to seeing where it goes in the coming year.  I hope you'll check us out!

I'm so impressed with how you've transformed that team! Seriously, I would join something like that here immediately if I could find one (as you already know). Major high-fives to you for all of that hard work. I'm going to check out the other blog now!

  2. That's you!!!!! Seriously! I was looking at The Nutmeg Collective blog not too long ago and shared your blog with the other captains of the Hudson Valley Etsy team saying how cool it looked. We've been going through some issues too as a team, maybe I can pick your brain? :) We're also faced with the challenge of being a location-based team but the Hudson Valley is such a large space, everyone is spread out all over that trying to arrange meetings or get togethers can be a challenge. You did a super fantastic job!

  3. So cool to read a bit more about this! It's also amazing to see how much you have accomplished in such a short time. You are inspiring in that way! I know I've talked a lot about wanting community here in Baltimore, but the progress is slow. I joined the Maryland Promotions Team, which seemed promising, but the goals seem to very different than what my goals are and in comparison to your team. In addition, they recently changed the name and expanded to become the Coastal Promotions team-- including the Mid- Atlantic and the whole way down to the Florida coast. To me that negates the purpose of being on the team-- trying to stay local. Either way, I've really enjoyed watching your involvement evolve and your business grow in tandem.

  4. Thanks!! There have been moments of supreme frustration, that's for sure, but I think we're moving in the right direction. You could always start your own Baltimore team. Do a local search for Baltimore goods, then invite people to join. This could help set you up for more local events, etc.! I'm posting this same thing to Paige.... :)

  6. Thanks! That's me! It's been a challenge finding people who are up to the challenge, but we are definitely on the way. Please ask away! Send me an email and I'll do my best to answer. :)
