Guiltiest TV Pleasure?

Ok, so I confess....we don't currently have cable television.  Actually, we have no television.  We own televisions, but they are sitting unplugged in various rooms in our house.  Before we had the toddler, we watched tv all the time.  ALL. THE. TIME.  Afterward, we would turn on the tv in the morning to The Weather Channel, and that's where it stayed for the rest of the day.  We had a $75 a month weather habit, except we weren't even paying attention to it!  When we decided to buy our house, we also decided that we didn't need to be paying all that money for something we weren't using.  We had a baby, a dog, and a new house to occupy our time, and I have to tell you, we haven't missed it.  My husband rarely misses Mad Men, his current favorite, by watching episodes online.  I do the same with Project Runway, which is just about the only one I keep up with now.  We just don't have the time.

However, we do have Internet (obviously) and confession part two: I am pretty obsessed with celebrity gossip sites.  It's pretty sad how long I can sit there and read stuff about famous people, and I don't even know half of them because they're ON TV, which I don't watch!  So I've gathered a lot of information about current tv shows just by reading posts online and I was wondering, what's everyone's guilty pleasure television show?  I just came across something about The Real Housewives of New Jersey, I've seen a lot about Jersey Shore, and others about Celebrity Apprentice and The Biggest Loser, not to mention the whole Two and a Half Men thing.

I've told you mine- I don't want to miss PR (and I wish I could design like that)- so tell me yours!  What show can you not bear to miss, or secretly watch but wouldn't want anyone to catch you with it actually on?

  1. I loved, LOVED Project Runway when it was on Bravo, but it's just not the same anymore. I can't really put my figner on it, but something's just... off.

My husband suggested we get rid of our cable for the summer and I was like, "Heck no! What do you think I do while I make jewelry!?" So kudos to you for breaking your habit. :-)

  2. Thanks! It's really not as hard as it sounds, and we pretty much decided that when the house stuff is done and we have time to watch tv again then we're going to do a Netflix subscription. All those cable channels, and we only watched probably 10 of them regularly.

  3. I agree with Paige, don't love PR since it has been on Lifetime. I love those Jersey, New York and Orange County Housewives... like watching a weird train wreck. I think The Good Life and Friday Night Lights are the 2 best non-reality shows on TV right now... last season for FNL, though. SO sad! If you can download past seasons you should check it out... best written and acted show EVER.

  4. My guilty tv is aannyyything on Bravo! Like any Real Housewives, Millionaire Matchmaker, Bethenny etc etc. It's bad. We've discussed nixing the cable but Bravo is one of the only channels that doesn't post episodes online! It's horrible :(

  5. I LOVE the food network. I would spend all weekend watching it, but I usually don't get a chance to even watch 10 minutes. Chopped is my current favorite.

  6. There was a horrid show called Bridalplasty that I could not get enough of. It really was terrible and full of guilty pleasure.

  7. Oh, before we got rid of it I was a total Bravo addict, so I've seen some of the Housewives, Matchmaker, Flipping Out, you name it. It is so bad it's good. I also love the Food Network and I do miss that one. Chopped was one of my favorites, too.

  8. My guilty tv pleasure changes a lot. Right now it's Dancing With the Stars. I can't miss it-- mostly because I'm a HUGE Steelers fan and Hines Ward has been my favorite player since way back in high school! Plus the original DWTS started on Australian tv while I was studying abroad there so it's a nostalgic thing too.

  9. OK, if we're confessing...I loved the Girls Next Door when it was on. It was like a giant bar of junk food with no calories.

I am also a big Project Runway fan but my favorite now is Top Chef, especially Top Chef Masters.

  10. Real. Housewives. Of. New Jersey. 'nuff said. :)

I'm also a huge fan of the celebrity sites, mostly omg.yahoo.com and people.com. I don't really do the tmz-esque sites since I can't seem to navigate them.

Not exactly a guilty pleasure, but I love watching the History Channel while I'm knitting. I can watch the same documentary 18 times (drives the boyfriend NUTS!) because I mostly listen to the narrators. I find their voices soothing. :)

  11. The History Channel is narrated a lot by Edward Hermann, the grandfather on Gilmore Girls (the best show EVER). We've done a lot of listening to him to- the husband loves history.
