One Year Ago Today

If you didn't know me one year ago today, let me tell you what was going on.  I was 8 1/2 months pregnant and we were expecting a freak and sudden snow storm.  We have rarely ever had snow in Connecticut in October, let alone a foot or more in one shot.  The power went out at about 4:20 that evening and didn't come back on for seven and a half days.  It was cold, the yard was destroyed, and, oh, yea....we ended up having a baby toward the end of it.  (You can read more here and here.)

We never thought such bizarre weather would happen like this again, but one year later to the day, it's a monster hurricane.  Though we are lucky to be on the fringes of it this time, everyone is in panic mode.  Gas stations had lines for days, people were out buying up batteries and water, and generators once again cannot be found anywhere.  You lose power for a week and it affects you greatly.

Right now the wind is whipping and gusting from time to time, and it has been raining steadily for a few hours.  We are thankful that it is not snow this time, no matter what happens to the power.  One big concern here is that anything that snapped in the trees last year that didn't get removed could come down on the lines this time.

I hope that everyone in the path of this storm stays safe and I wish a fast return to electricity for anyone that loses it.

  1. Good luck with the storm this time around - I'm in CT too and we're hoping it won't be as bad as last year either. Stay safe!

  7. i forgot that this was this time last year! my area got hit hard by the snow (i was thankfully out of town) but not the hurricane thankfully. it's crazy that you had your baby at such a rough time - but something you'll never forget and a story for years to come

  8. Glad you made it through without a hitch. Us too- we thought we'd loose power but it didn't end up happening. I feel horrible for all of our Northern friends (speaking generally here) who's lives have been rocked. It's very humbling to think about.
