I Have A Problem

Magazines are taking over my house.  In the past year, I have only subscribed to Cooking Light (which turned out to be a little bit disappointing from the last time I got it), but my mother and grandmother and other various family members all get different ones and they swap and pass them on.  Which is great, until you don't have time to read them.  Or in my case, want to look through them one more time in case there is anything worth saving.  And that leads to a pile of magazines of epic proportion waiting, waiting for me to do something with them.

Oh, and don't forget the catalogs.  Sheesh.

Do you hoard magazines, or am I the only one?  I think I'm going to just have to start pitching them here pretty soon!

  1. Yes! I have this problem too! Although mine are more fashion magazines and tabloids. I like to find ways to get them for free, too! I currently get people style watch, vogue, redbook, parents, american baby and baby talk. All for free! So I totally have piles just like you! :)

do you do collages or decoupage?

  2. No, I don't, but that would be a great way to get rid of them! I'm more for clipping recipes or home decor ideas I like. I used to bring them to school when I was teaching, and if I didn't use them for collages there, someone would!

  3. I'm pretty good at going through them and pulling out all the pages I want and recycling the rest. I have binders I keep those in, one for cooking, one for house, one for exerciser, and one for travel. Usually 2 or 3 months worth pile up - then I go through them on a sunday morning. Don't forget to check out my food network magazine reviews on my blog ;-) then you'll know exactly which pages to keep!

  4. I have a serious magazine habit... bad, bad, bad. I hate throwing them away, especially Vanity Fair (which I LOVE) and MORE. We have YEARS of Cooking Light, but haven't had a subscription in a very long time.

  5. I was a mag hoarder and actually just recently broke out of it like a month ago. Now-a-days, anything that's in the magazine can be found on that magazine's website, so it's never reeeally lost. With the cooking mags, you should take a day and clip the recipes you love and make a darling recipe book with them!

  6. I hate having too much stuff around, so I only subscribe to one magazine (plus of course Sports Illustrated for my husband and son). I donate to the library when I'm done and if I want something to read, I'll buy them at the library for a quarter.

  7. I have the same issue, but have gotten a lot better! I started a scrapbook where I've just continually pasted favorite recipes that I've tried. I've started to get into the habit of cutting out what I want immediately. I also have a rule that if I don't cook it within in particular period of time then I should get rid of the clipping.

  8. I used to work at a magazine and would get comp subs from a ton of magazines in the same genre. I was ADDICTED to them. One month, I had 23 magazines arrive. When I bought my house, I knew I couldn't keep them all - so I donated them. I miss them.... :)

  9. My name is Julia and I am a magazineaholic..I love Romantic Homes and Country Living. I am still mourning the loss of Country Home and ME Home Companion! I have most of mine in a primitive cupboard sorted by title and stacked. I do occasionally let go of some of the older ones or tear pages. I love to just grab a stack on a Sunday afternoon and take to my bed and peruse and jot ideas until I konk out!

  10. My mom USED to give me all her magazines when she had finished. I recently told her to get rid of them for this reason! Not to mention if it was full of holiday crafts and recipes she would give it to me AFTER that holiday so it was pretty useless to me by then. :)

  11. My name is Jessica Newell. I've been hoarding magazines since I started reading Seventeen at age 13 and 1/2.

I've finally widdled it down to 3...

    Real Simple - Lifestyle
    House Beautiful - Interior Design
Dance Magazine - Dance - DUH!

I have to tell you though that seeing all of your lovely mags is tempting me to start up a new collection...
    some kind of food mag.

    Thanks ;)
