Island Hopping

Happy Monday!  Thank you to all who checked in with me over the weekend and left astonished comments on Saturday's post.  I'm happy to report that after over four hours on the driveway, hubs was able to clear it, for the most part.  When Greta went for an afternoon nap, I set Gus up with a video and headed out to help.  By the time we finished, this is where we were at:

Because all I see right now is a great white expanse, I decided to perk myself up with a few photos of where I'd rather be.

Turks and Caicos.  Hubby and I took our honeymoon here and we'd love to go back.  Now.

 via

Tahiti.  Because I really want to stay in one of those cabanas.

 via

Hawaii.  Because everyone I know who's gone there has loved it.

Aruba.  Because, well, why not?

As you can see, I really wouldn't mind a tropical island vacation right about now.  I totally enjoy the whole lay-on-the-beach-and-read type of trip (which I've done all of twice, but both were wonderful).

In reality, school is closed again today to help keep people off the roads, and while the roads are not officially closed by the governor like they were on Saturday, he has advised businesses to keep all non-essential personnel home so they can continue clearing snow.  Hopefully the wintry mix that we're getting right now will turn right into rain, which will help melt some of this down, although all the storm drains are covered so I'm sure that will eventually become a problem, too.  I hope you're in better shape weather-wise than we are!  At least we all get to stay home together again; no one has any place they need to be.  Maybe we'll do some baking.

What are you up to today?  Anyone else home due to the snow?  Taking an island vacation, perhaps?

  1. I can't get over how high those drifts are! At least you got the driveway cleared. I've only dealt with blizzard snow once before (in 2011) and there were cars under snow outside our building. Just insane.

And yes, Hawaii is a marvelous place. We honeymooned there and would love to go back.

  2. I've been through a couple of blizzards before, but nothing with this much snow. (And also, thankfully, I lived in apartments both times so I wasn't the one having to shovel the walk, etc.)

I love playing the "where I'd rather be game"! I've always wanted to go to Hawaii too. :)

  3. Obviously living in CT meant I've gone through my fair share of blizzards. The first year Ryan moved to Charlottesville, VA they had freak weather during the winter and they were dumped with so much snow. That has not happened since I've moved here. I think the most we've gotten since I've been here is about 5 inches. Plus, people really don't know how to function in the snow here so it's really dangerous to be on the roads.

I actually have no desire to go to Hawaii. I've heard it's really pretty but it's expensive to fly there and I rather go to so many other places first. I have been to Puerto Rico and it's absolutely beautiful there. I mean breath-taking. I really want to go back plus it's pretty inexpensive to fly there.

  4. I would love to be in a warm place, even though I'm not the biggest fan of winter :) all this snow is crazy! I'm drinking lots of tea/hot cocoa, listening to 'Bringing Up Bebe' on audiobook and catching up on some writing today.

  5. Wow. That is a crazy amount of snow. When I read over the weekend the extent to which you all got dropped on I was astounded! Not quite expecting that much, but it is winter I guess-LOL. Crazy. You're earning your dinner tonight!

  6. The rain has already started here in Upstate NY and it is ruining everything! The pretty snow is all washed away and there is just ugly everywhere. I stayed home today and cleaned the fridge, washed the sheets and did laundry....boring! It was sunny for awhile but now the wind is whipping outside and my house is shaking!

  7. Love the beach photos -- Looks like you got more snow than here in Boston. At least it seems like it is melting quickly here.
