Putting it Off

How true is that quote? This is becoming a theme in my life lately. In the morning (or the night before) I make a list with every intention of getting it all done.  And by the end of the day, there are always several things not done.  They are to be pushed off until the next day, or the day after that.

For that I am thankful, because I can work on my shop when I feel like it, write blog posts when I have time, sew new things when the mood strikes.  I can work when I'm inspired to, and some days, I just don't have the energy or interest in making things.

That can also lead to frustration, though.  I have a timeline in my head when I want to get new pieces made, new posts written, to get promotion done, and when it doesn't happen, I feel like I've let myself down.  Then that compounds on itself, and I don't get anything done the next day either, until finally I have to break through the mood and get working.

The past few days I have been pushing off until tomorrow (and the day after tomorrow) all kinds of work, and I know I need to force myself to get moving now.

Do you have energy/motivation-blocked days?
How do you push through?

  1. Usually what drains me now is school, since I'm learning about a creative field and then have to come home and work in another one. I try to fight it by saving my easy tasks to do on those afternoons. Today, for example, I'll be making coasters, which is pretty mindless work that I can do with the TV on in the background. Good luck!

  2. Yesterday and today have been low on the motivation scale, but I think it's probably the fact that I'm exhausted and the weather is so dreary. I just drink tea or grab a coke and try to push through it.

Luckily, my lack of motivation is usually not work related but more household chores related! ;)

  3. Hmmm, I thought I was the author of that quote....
I also enjoy doing what I want, when I want -- but sometimes that just causes procrastination!

  4. I'm blaming it on the weather lately! I've been the same way. I'm just not motivated to work the last couple weeks. Here's hoping for sunshine!

  5. This happens a lot for many people during the winter months...Some days you just need to put it all off till tomorrow! But other days, you can spend a few minutes doing something for YOU, something relaxing, to gather your thoughts and get motivated. Read a good book, surf through Pinterest or blogs for some motivational quotes and posts, take a quick walk...It might help. =0)

  6. Oh I know exactly what you mean! I always feel like I'm running behind where I should be. That quote is hilarious. Someone sent me this the other day, also made me laugh:

  8. I felt this way last week. I really didn't want to sew or do anything but I just pushed through it. I just sat in front of my machine until I forced myself to sew and I manage to make 4 pouches. I was very happy in the end.

  10. I've sure been there! And when I do finally get things caught up, it feels so good that I wonder why I waited.

  11. Love this!!!!! It's me, always has been, procrastination queen, and having two little kids gives me the perfect excuse to do just that. Just found your blog and love it, and it gives me one more reason to put things off a little longer and enjoy a cup of tea while I explore :)
