Ideas?
To all of my sewing readers out there, and for the rest of you who have some great ideas, I need some help.
While in Jo-ann's Fabrics yesterday, perusing the remnant bin, I came across this fabric:
This little beauty is just under a yard (.97) and was in the clearance bin for half off $6.99 a yard. When I got it to the register, it was on sale even more and I got it for just over $2. Score! My Gus is completely and totally about heavy machinery. I want to make something for him, but I'm not sure what, so I would love to hear some ideas. It's flannel and the whole thing is that pattern. I was thinking a blanket with minky or soft fleece on the other side, but that is kind of plain and he has a lot of blankets, so I'm at a little bit of a loss.
Help?
Happy Friday!

Just a thought ~ I made a cute pillow with fabric like this! Can be difficult to find fabric for boys. The one you purchase is great ~ and the price makes it even better.

Maybe a drawstring tote to haul/corral toys/stuffed animals? Looks like it would go good with denim...do you have any old jeans to chop up?
ReplyDeleteI like the tote idea - is a yard enough for PJ pants - those would be great!
ReplyDeletemy first thought was a shirt, but I don't know if that is enough fabric.
ReplyDeleteA tote would also be cute. Or fabric storage bins for toys?
The tote idea is good. You cut it up and combine it with a solid to make a quilt. That would stretch it a bit...
ReplyDeleteI was also thinking fun pillows for his room, frame it for a little artwork piece? But ya I am not a sewer lol good luck!

How old is your little one? Could you possibly make him a cute little western shirt with the yoke in this adorable fabric? Ok, if your not into that, most children's pajamas are just over 1 yard. If you make them short's instead of pants you should have enough!! :)
ReplyDeleteI was thinking along the lines of the pillow people, but how about just a pillowcase for his bed pillow? It would be nice and soft and fun too.
ReplyDeleteOne more thought--looking at your cute pennants in your shop, what about a little pennant banner for his room? You could use solid reds and other patterns and the construction fabric for some of the pennants.
ReplyDeletewhy not make him a digger/truck shaped pillow? A yard should be plenty...you might even get a couple out of it, especially if you were to back them with a contrasting solid.
ReplyDeleteHave fun!
Thanks, everyone! You certainly gave me a lot to think about. I had thought of doing a tote because heavens knows we can always use one, but I didn't think about pillows or pennants and things like that. I really appreciate it!
ReplyDeletei agree with janet- and immediately thought of a pillowcase!
