I Fought the Wallpaper

And the wallpaper is winning.  Remember when I said that grass cloth is the wallpaper from hell?  I was wrong.  Faux cork is.  Honestly, I still have no idea what this is exactly, but it's pretty thin and therefore ripping off in little pieces.

Start of day:

Several hours later:

Seriously, it's one wall.  After 3 or 4 hours, that wall should be done.  Maybe I'll go back to trim painting.

What's on your plate today?

  1. Wow, that's really weird. Maybe you could, like, sand the rest off or something? A power sander would at least make it kind of fun...

  2. Have you tried steaming it with your iron?? Not that I've ever tried it, but I've heard it works. Good luck :)

  3. wallpaper. the bane of your existence.

  4. Oh dear... hang in there! If it makes you feel better, I painted a test stripe in our dining room that I hate, so I'm avoiding it entirely and painting for fun instead.

  5. I can feel for you! Our old house had 20+ year old wallpaper and different kinds including very dark wood paneling. I found the best method was scoring the paper a lot and soaking it with the wallpaper solution. Depending on the glue, sometimes warm soapy water worked well if I soaked the wallpaper. It is very messy.

Good luck! Don't let the wallpaper win! It will look so nice when you are done.

it took me 40+ work hours to get my parents' teeny tiny bathroom wallpaper off. good luck!

  7. Oh, that is the absolute worst! I had a room like that and I thought it would suck the life right out of me! Good luck to you...you'll be so thrilled when it's finally down.

  8. Oh, my gosh...I'm sorry for you! It took me the good part of a week to strip my kids' bathroom - ceiling and all. Then to make matters worse they had 1) wallpapered directly to the drywall and 2) put a second layer right over it! I just had to plug into my iPod, spray and scrape...long week....then I had to tell my husband we still had to get the wall textured before I could paint.

Keep it up - it will look great once it's done!
