Jeans.

I saw an Instagram go through my feed awhile back praising the comfortable fit of the person's jeans, and for some reason the first thought that came into my head, oddly enough, was, "Will people ever not wear jeans?"

How many times a week, on average, do you wear jeans?  Me, about 6 or 7.  I'm not going out to work, I'm home with my kids, I can style them up or down, so therefore, I wear them all the time.  I like darker washes that can look really nice with sweaters, jewelry, and heels, but I do have some pairs that are just standard jeans.  I recently delved into the skinny jeans trend and am trying out a pair of those this spring.  I would love to get a pair of dark wash trouser jeans, but every style I find is too long for me.  Tall, I am not.  My point?  I wear a lot of jeans.

And should this always be the case?  Shouldn't I try and mix it up a little bit?  I actually saw a line in an article that said that jeans are just glorified yoga pants! (Oh, horror!!)  I don't know if I'd go that far, but I get the point they were trying to make:  Since they're worn all the time, for all occasions, in all types of weather, there's nothing special about them and people will wear them in any condition- tatters, sagging, etc.

I have some nice styles of chinos hanging in my closet, and I have lots of dress trousers from when I was working.  Both have all but been abandoned.  There was a time when women (and men) rarely wore jeans.  Dresses and dress clothes were the norm and jeans were mainly for little boys and workingmen.  Now they are standard style.  Do you ever think it will go back the other way?  Will people ever not wear jeans?

  1. I certainly hope there's never a time when people don't wear jeans. Like you, I don't have much reason to wear anything else. Skinny jeans have been my go-to for the last 5 years (I got on that train as it was leaving the station) and the rest of my wardrobe reflects that. Yeah, I have other things in my closet, like dresses to wear when it's hot, but I think jeans will be my lifelong favorite.

  2. When I was a kid, my father called them "dungarees" and my mom wore dresses, heels and gloves to shop downtown!! No, I hope they never go away -- the only clothes I wear besides my jeans are my pjs!!

  3. I hope they never go out of style...I wear them every day! I would like to try skinny jeans just so I can wear the cool over-the-jean boots that I'm seeing everywhere, but I can't bring myself to wear them yet.

  4. I'm usually in jeans, too. I get so bored with them though! In the spring and summer it's fun to add cute skirts and dresses into the mix, but for now, it's just jeans. Great blog! I found it through the Etsy Blog Team, now following!

  5. I would be sad if jeans ever went out of style. I love jeans! I'm with you on the dark washes-- love 'em and they work really well for looking a bit more dressy. I used to wear a lot of dressier pants to school, but this year I've worn a lot of jeans. Probably several factors there. 1) I don't care enough about the job to care if jeans are a little on the unprofessional side. 2) I don't have many dress pants left that I like and I'd rather spend money on shoes. 3) I've been wearing boots a lot more and skinny jeans need to be worn with boots. 4) I've realized that most of my jeans are dark wash and look really nice and pretty professional with a good cardigan and some cute heels. Either way, jeans are what should always be in style no matter! If they ever leave the fashion world then I guess I'll just have to be out of fashion! :)

  6. I love jeans! I do think they'll evolve over time, like how today their a lot thinner and stretchier than they used to be. But I'm okay with that because I'm really short and skinny jeans that are easy to cuff if needed are the best fit. I used to wear jeans every day but now it's mostly just on the weekends because of work-and I really miss it!

  7. People will probably always wear jeans, though I think we've officially exhausted every possible fit and color and style, so I think trends will probably circle back around again. They literally can't get any skinnier. I just saw an ad campaign for ae that made me shudder and I thought it was a joke at first.

For you though, with small kids at home, I think it would be kind of impractical to wear work pants or things that are dry clean only. I know from watching my niece and nephews that you spend a lot of time on the floor with little kids, and they're messy, and you have to be comfortable. I see some moms dressed up in fancy clothes with babies on some style blogs and I just think, "yeah right, that lasted for 2 minutes before that kid spit up all over it." :)

  8. Jeans are definitely here to stay! The style may change, but there will always be jeans. =0)

  9. Love jeans. I wear jeans ALL the time. Although I wouldn't mind the style changing and wearing something else. I think it may be hard with our lifestyles now.

Jeans are just more comfortable to wear while driving, walking around, or sitting down anywhere. I'm less likely to feel self-conscious in jeans.

I don't mind the skinny jean trend but.. I can only wear with flats and my hips and thighs are so big that I need to make sure I off-set my outfit with a tee that covers the hips. I prefer boot cut jeans. I can wear with flats or heels.

  10. I wonder if this is more of an American thing? Or maybe I'm just friends with weird people here in the Uk... However, I only own one pair of jeans, and I probably wear them less than once a month! I can't tell you the last time I got the out, but it was definitely before Christmas! I'm a chinos and corduroys girl! Most my female friends where skirts or other cotton type trousers.
